Edge Caching

global locations

Your website content cached at 300+ edge locations worldwide. Visitors load pages from the nearest data centre instead of waiting for the origin server — cutting latency, improving Core Web Vitals, and delivering a faster experience everywhere.

Edge Caching That Works Automatically

Smart caching rules, global distribution, and instant purge capabilities — all configured and managed as part of your hosting plan.

Global Edge Network

Your content is distributed to 300+ data centres in cities across six continents. Visitors in Miami, London, or Tokyo all load your site from the nearest edge location — not from a single origin server.

Smart Cache Rules

We configure cache rules tailored to your site. Static assets get long TTLs for maximum edge caching. Dynamic content, admin pages, and personalised responses bypass the cache and are always served fresh.

Instant Purge

When you update content, stale cache entries are purged globally within seconds. Individual URLs, entire directories, or the full cache can be cleared instantly — your visitors always see the latest version.

Browser Caching

We set optimal cache-control headers so returning visitors load assets from their local browser cache. Combined with edge caching, repeat visits load near-instantly with minimal network requests.

Asset Optimisation

Images, CSS, and JavaScript are automatically minified and compressed at the edge. Brotli and gzip compression reduce file sizes, and images can be converted to modern formats like WebP and AVIF on the fly.

Cache Analytics

Monitor cache hit rates, bandwidth savings, and performance metrics through Cloudflare analytics. See exactly how much traffic is served from the edge versus the origin, and track improvements over time.

How Edge Caching Works

Content delivered from the closest point to your visitors

Without edge caching, every page request travels from the visitor's browser to your origin server and back. If your server is in the US and a visitor is in Europe, that round trip adds hundreds of milliseconds of latency to every single request. Multiply that by all the assets on a page and load times suffer.

Edge caching solves this by storing copies of your content at data centres close to your visitors. The first request fetches content from the origin and caches it at the edge. Every subsequent request from that region is served directly from the cache — no origin round trip needed. The result is dramatically faster page loads and lower server resource usage.

How It Works

Three steps to faster content delivery

1

Analyse Content

We audit your website to identify which content types benefit most from edge caching — images, stylesheets, scripts, fonts, and static HTML. We also identify dynamic content that should bypass the cache, such as form handlers, admin pages, and API endpoints.

2

Configure Rules

Based on the audit, we set up tailored cache rules with appropriate TTLs for each content type. Static assets get long cache lifetimes for maximum edge delivery. We configure cache-control headers, enable Brotli compression, and set up browser caching policies for optimal repeat-visit performance.

3

Monitor Performance

Once caching is active, we monitor cache hit rates, TTFB, and bandwidth savings through Cloudflare analytics. We refine rules based on real traffic data, adjust TTLs if content changes frequently, and ensure your cache performance stays optimal as your site evolves.

FAQ

Common questions

Edge caching stores copies of your website content — images, CSS, JavaScript, HTML — at data centres around the world. When a visitor requests a page, the content is served from the nearest edge location instead of travelling all the way to your origin server. This reduces latency, lowers server load, and results in significantly faster page loads.

Edge caching directly improves Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and Time to First Byte (TTFB) — two critical Core Web Vitals metrics. By serving content from a nearby edge location, the time between a visitor requesting a page and seeing content on screen is drastically reduced. Better Core Web Vitals scores lead to improved Google search rankings.

When you update content, we can instantly purge the edge cache so visitors see the new version immediately. For most sites, we configure smart cache rules that automatically invalidate stale content when changes are detected. You never have to manually clear the cache or worry about visitors seeing outdated pages.

Yes. Edge caching through Cloudflare CDN is included with every Eyecay hosting plan at no extra cost. We configure the cache rules, set appropriate TTLs for different content types, and monitor cache performance as part of our managed hosting service.

No, because we configure cache rules to distinguish between static and dynamic content. Static assets like images, fonts, and stylesheets are cached aggressively at the edge. Dynamic content — form submissions, admin pages, personalised content — bypasses the cache entirely and is always served fresh from the origin server.
